WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – Reader’s Digest will announce the final five Thursday night and voting will restart to determine the winner.
In central Wisconsin, a familiar name is getting attention nationwide.
A Wisconsin Rapids high school teacher is currently in the race for America’s Favorite Teacher.
Kelly Van Asten, works at Lincoln High School and helps teach kids with special needs to become the best version of themselves.
The competition is fierce, with her currently in 2nd place.
Voting for the TOP 5 ends Thursday April 25th at 9PM.

Reader’s Digest is offering the winner a trip to Hawaii, $25,000 and an article about their work. But Kelly says she’s not in it for the money, she says it’s about being there for her students.
