Matt began the conversation with an overview of some of the budget and planning updates he’s been working on. Matt then expressed that he was grateful and impressed with all of the involvement on every level, but especially with department heads, in these budget discussions. He really appreciates how willing to organize long term plans everyone is.

Downtown Master Plan

James then brought up the downtown master plan meetings and discussions with residents. Matt attended the meetings and learned from them together with residents, and was happy to see the involvement and to interact with everyone. The downtown master plan is a newly renewed plan to make downtown Wisconsin Rapids more accessible and tailored to the community needs. One of the major parts of the new downtown master plan is the redistricting of downtown to include the locations of the Aquatic Center and Witter Field, Home of the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Matt expressed the importance of these changes for increased tourism to the area. To learn more about the Downtown Master Plan you can read this article on our website by clicking the link here.

James then asked about the railroad crossing and other construction efforts being planned in town. Matt said there were many letters of support for these efforts. Specifically the support for the railroad reconstruction, and the revitalization of the industrial park. It was a very encouraging thing to experience, and everyone is very optimistic and hopeful about these items.

Mayor’s Proclamations

Then they discussed a couple of proclamations Matt chose to make. First he established a Wisconsin Rapids Community Media day. Matt expressed his gratitude for all the work they do for the community. Matt then listed a few improvements being made to Wisconsin Rapids Community Media’s studio, and restated the importance of the work they do. Second, he established Free Speech week from the 21st to the 27th. He expressed the importance of maintaining and protecting free speech.
